Dear Mr. Hutchinson:

An NRC inspection was conducted March 17-21,1997, at your Arkansas Nuclear One,
Units 1 and 2, reactor facilities. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that
inspection.
!
Two exercise weaknesses were identified during the simulator walkthroughs, as discussed
in Section P4 of the enclosed inspection report. The weaknesses involved the failure to
satisfactorily implement site evacuation procedures and the failure to perform correct fuel
j
damage assessments.

According to 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix E.IV.F.2.g, exercise weaknesses are inspection
l
findings that need to be corrected by the licensee. You are requested to provide this office
with a description of your corrective measures and your schedule for completing these
)
actions within 30 days after receipt of this letter.
In accordsnce with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
