The NRC staff acknowledges receipt of your letter dated June' 25, 1985, setting forth your proposed schedule for ceeting the requirements of the final rule on hydrogen control as required by 10CFR50.44(3)(c)(vii)(A). The proposed schedule s is based upon the current schedule for completion of all tasks incorporated in

! the Mark III.Contairment Hydrogen Control Owners Group (HCOG) Program Plan i (Revision 3). As you are aware, the staff is continuing to work with and meet l frequently with HCOG toward the completion of this effort. Some adjustments 4

in the intennediate milestones identified in this schedule can reasonably be i expected and can be periodically documented in updates of the Progran Plan.

l The Progran Plan identifies Decen.ber 31, 1986, as the scheduled date for

? completion and submittal to the staff of all elements of the final analysis

] required by the rule. This date is acceptable to the staff for completion of  !

] the final analysis. In the event that the final analysis should provide a basis

for the staff to conclude that certain equipment enhancerrents are necessary to assure survivability of certain essential equipment during the postulated hyorogen burn events, as required by the rule, an additional period of time will i be necessary to implement such enhancements. Any enhancenents determined to be i

, necessary shall be implemented prior to startup following the first refueling outage as discussed in your letters of June 26, 1985, and August 19, 1985 and ,

agreed to on Septerrber 23, 1985.

As you are aware, the staff is continuing to work with and meet frequently with HCOG toward the completion of this effort. Some adjustments in the intennediate milestones identified in this schedule can reasonably be expected and can be periodically documented in updates of the Program Plan.

The Program Plan idencifies December 31, 1986, as the scheduled date for completion and submittal to the staff of all elements of the final analysis required by the rule. This date is acceptable to the staff for completion of the final analysis. In the event that the final analysis should provide a basis for the staff to conclude that certain equipment enhancements are necessary to assure survivability of certain essential equipment during the postulated hydrogen burn events, as required by the rule, an additional period of time will be necessary to implement such enhancements. Any enhancements determined to be necessary shall be implemented prior to startup following the first refueling outage as discussed in your letters of June 26, 1985, and August 19, 1985, and agreed to on September 23, 1985.
