Dear Sir:

We previously reported [ Reference (b)] a potential 10CFR50.55(e) item associated with the breech guide screw on the control rod drive mechanisms.

The NRC issued IE Information Notice No. 85-14 [ Reference (c)] to address all nuclear power facilities. In Reference (c), a Westinghouse procedure was referred to which required the drilling of a hole in the breech guide screw at least 90 degrees from the existing hole. A locking pin was to be inserted into the new hole and the pin welded in place. This procedure has been performed on all the control rod drive assemblies for Seabrook Units 1 and 2 to eliminate the concerns addressed in IE Information Notice No. 85-14.
