Washington Nuclear Project No. 1 By letter dated April 15, 1983, Mr. G. Bouchey responded to NRC Generic l
Letter 82-33 regarding NUREG-0737, Supplement 1, " Requirements for Emergency l
Response Capability" for WNP-1.
For those portions of the NUREG regarding Regulatory Guide 1.97, Revision 2, Mr. Bouchey referred to the FSAR for a detailed description of WNP-l's conformance.
The NRC has reviewed the April 15, 1983, letter and applicable portions of the FSAR with the technical assistance of our contractor, EG&G Idaho, Inc.
The enclosure reflects the current status of our review and is considered to be an interim report. We find (1) WPPSS has provided an explicit commitment on conformances to Regulatory Guide 1.97, except for those items identified by WPPSS, and (2) justification for the exceptions to Regulatory Guide 1.97 for most items is acceptable. However, items in the following sections of the enclosure require additional information and justification prior to acceptable completion of this review:

Information to be provided later -- WPPSS is to provide range and category information for the thirteen listed variables, identify any deviation and justify those identified deviations.
(Section 3.3.1) 2.
Radiation monitoring instrumentation -- environmental qualification should be addressed in accordance with 10 CFR 50.49. (Section 3.3.2) 3.
Heat removal by containment fan heat removal system -- WPPSS should identify the method of monitoring heat removal by the containment fan heat removal system or justify why it is not required.
