SUEJECT: REPLACEMENT SERVICE UATER SPRAY WATER PUMPS We have completed our revicv. cf the Public Service Electric ar.d Gas Cenpany (PSE&G) request cated October 10, 1985 with respect to a replacement Service Water Spray Water Pump for Hope Creek.

The Service Water Spray Water Pur.ip was originally procured fron Hayt;oed Tyler and was ccnstructed to Section III, Class 3, of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code including an "k" stanp. The replacement Service Water Spray Water Pump will also be precurce from Haywood Tyler and constructed to Section III, Class 3, cf the Ccce but without the "H" Stanp as their ASME Code Authorization and N-Type Stamp was revoked det tc relocation of the plant. In order to have the "h" Staap reinstated, Haywood Tyler is scheduled to be resurveyed in February 1986 by an Authorized Inspection Agency (AIA). If the results of the AIA resurvey are satisfactory, Heywood Tyler may again construct these pumps in accordance with the Code ircluding the "N" Stamp.

Tbc replacen;ent Service Water Spray Watcr Fump wculd be procured to rect all the requirener.ts of Section III, Class 3, of the ASME Code including all appropriate quality assurance requiremer,ts, with the exception of the "H" Stamp. The quality assurance requirements will be in conpliance with 10CFR Part 50, Appendix B. In addition, PSE&G will perform an appropriate vendor survey and provide an ASME type certifict. tion document certifying con.pliunce with all other related Section III requirements.

We find that the replacement Service Water Spray Water Pump without the "N" Starrp is acceptable provided the AIA resurvey of the Haywood Tyler f acility is acceptable and the ASME Code Authorization and "N" Stamp is reinstated. This approval is also contingent on the PSE&G commitment to provide an ASME type certification dccurent certifying compliance with all other related Section III requirements. In all other respects, the replacement Service Water Spray Water Pump shall be in confomance with Section III, Class 3 of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. l 8512040185 851121 PDR A
