Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant, Unit 1 10 CFR 50.55a(g) requires that applicable ASME Code components of a boiling water-cooled nuclear power facility meet the requirements set forth in Section

XI of the ASME Boiler and Pressur~e Vessel Code.

Each facility is required to have an inspection program plan which is updated every ten years to meet the requirements of the latest approved applicable edition and addenda of Section XI.

By letter dated July.18,1985, Georgia Power Company (GPC) stated its intention to complete the examinations for the Hatch Unit 1 fi'rst 10 year inspection interval, basing the examinations on a program written to the 1980 Edition of the ASME Code Section XI with Addenda through Winter 1980.

We responded by letter dated November 7, 1985 stating some of the relief requests were granted, some conditionally granted and others denied. We I

subsequently met with your staff on November 19, 1985 and discussed the i

requests that were denied and your plans for submitting additional information i

in support of these denied requests.

By letter dated November 27, 1985 you j

submitted this additional information. We have reviewed this information, and j

as indicated in the enclosed Safety Evaluation which includes the details of this review, we have concluded relief from examining supports of ASME Class 1 lines, 2-inch nominal pipe diameter and less_and of ASME Class 2 and 3 lines, 4-inch nominal pipe diameter and less during the completion of the Hatch Unit 1 first 10 year inspection interval should be granted.
