Please find attached responses to Violation No. 413/85-20-03 and Deviation No. 414/85-20-02 as identified in the above referenced inspection report.
'In connection with this Deviation, we are submitting under separate cover this same date, a revised response to an earlier Violation 413/84-104-01, concerning the use of teflon tape in potential radiation areas of the station.

The licensee committed in correspondence to the NRC dated January 24 and March 14, 1985, to remove Teflon tape in the Auxiliary Building by March 1, 1985.
Contrary to the above, all Teflon tape in the Auxiliary Building had not been removed as of the date of this inspection.
Response
1.
All groups in Nuclear Production (not just the groups involved in the original violation), have been advised that Teflon tape is not to be installed in areas prohibited by the Power Chemistry Materials Guide.
Our response to violation 50-413/84-104-01 has been revised to indicate more clearly our intentions concerning the use of Teflon tape.
2.
The actions outlined in paragraph (1) will avoid further deviations in this area.
3.
The actions in paragraph (1) were completed August 9, 1985.

4 DUKE POWER COMPANY Catawba Nuclear Station Violation 413/85-20-03 Violation:
10CFR50 Appendix 3, Criterion V, as implemented by Section 17.2.5 of the accepted QA Program, requires that activities associated with nuclear safety-related structures, systems and components be accomplished in accurdance with procedures appropriate to the activities being performed.
Station Directive 3.11.1, Housekeeping and Cleanliness Levels in Safety Related Areas, Revision 9, requires all dirt and debris be removed from a Cleanliness Level IV Area.
Contrary to the above, on May 9, 1985, all dirt and debris including flammable material was not removed from a Level IV Area (Diesel Generator Room IB).
Response
1.
Duke Power Company admits the violation.
2.
This incident occurred after personnel added oil to the IB Diesel Generator from oil barrels using a filter press. The individuals failed to clean up the area after the oil addition had occured in violation of cleanliness requirements.
3.
As soon as this condition was found, we initiated immediate corrective a,ction to have the room cleaned and restored to the proper cleanliness level.
4.
To prevent further violations of this kind, all personnel in the responsible groups will be reminded of housekeeping requirements within the Diesel Generator rooms.
5.
Catawba will be in compliance by September 1, 1985.
