Gentlemen:

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. M. J. Farber of

this office on May 20 through June 7,1985 and July 22 through August 1,1985,

of activities at Braidwood Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2, authorized by

NRC Construction Permit Nos. CPPR-132 and CPPR-133 and to the discussion of

our findings with Mr.' J. Wallace and others of your staff at the conclusion

of the inspection.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during

the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective

examinaion of procedures and representative records, observations, and

interviews with personnel.

No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this

inspection. Two unresolved items, concerning the reportability of deficien-

cies in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e), were identified which require addi-

tional information from your staff to disposition. An additional unresolved

item, concerning the acceptability of the Containment Sump Recirculation

Testing, was identified and an evaluation of the test results by your Project

Engineering Department is required to determine its disposition.

, In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this

letter and the enclosure will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.

The responses directed by this letter are not subject to the clearance proce-

dures of the Office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork

Reduction of Act of 1980, PL-511.
