Auburn Vocational School District represents a significant portion of the district's budget; and WifEREAS, the Auburn Vocational School District is vitally interested in Centerior Energy Corporation being a viable, solvent corporation that maintains its commitments to the community and schcols; and

, WIIEREAS, the merger of Centerior Energy Corporation and Ohio Edison would create a S5 billion, Fortune 300 Company; and WIIEREAS, this new company would become the nation's lith largest investor-owned electric system; Ohio's largest single taxpayer, with SS16 million in annual payments; and one of the state top 20 employers; and WIIEREAS, the merger would keep jobs in Ohio; create a larger enterprise with ore resources, offering customers better electric service and a wider array of energy-related products; and W11EREAS, the combination of the contiguous service areas will further assist community and

, state economic development efforts in attracting jobs over a wider region of Ohio; and WiiEREAS, a rate reduction plan has been filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio l which would greatly benefit Centerior customers with rate reductions commencing after the merger is approved.

l NOW, TIIEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Auburn Vocational School District:

Section 1. That the Auburn Vocational School District hereby urges state and federal regulators to quickly approved the firstEnergy merger so that Centerior Energy customers and employees can begin to enjoy the benefits as soon as possible.

Section 2. That copies of this resolution be forwarded to Governor George V. Voinovich, Ohio Consumers' Counsel Robert S. Tongren, members of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, l members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, members of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the appropriate members of the Ohio liouse and Senate.
