The Vogtle Electric Generating Plant Units 1 and 2 are powered by pressurized water reactors, each rated at 3565 megawatts thermal. It is located on the Savannah River in Burke County Georgia, at a site 34 miles southeast of Augusta.

The Unit 1 operating license was initially received on January 16,1987 and commercial operation l

started on May 31,1987. Unit 1 is in its seventh fuel cycle.

Unit 2 received its initial operating license on February 9,1989, and began commercial operation on May 19,1989. Unit 2 is currently in its sixth fuel cycle.

  • - Refers to special maintenance not usually performed during normal operations. Most major maintenance is associated with outages. Examples of special maintenance performed in 1996 include: reactor coolant pump seal and motor work, steam generator tube testing and plugging, replacement of incore detectors, and major outage related maintenance.
