OPERATIONS

SUMMARY

JULY, 1985 The plant was maintained in hot shutdown the entire month awaiting the U.S.

Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit's decision to lift the stay of the NRC Commissioners Restart Order. The decision to remain hot is re-evaluated on a continuing basis. All operating plant equipment continues to operate dependably with no signs of degradation.

Both OTSGs continue to exhibit no significant leakage.

Major Safety Related Maintenance During the month of July,1985, the following major maintenance items were performed:

Waste Disposal Liquid System Filter WDL-F-1B - Precoat filter WDL-F-1A filter element changeout, because of an excessively high D/P, was completed in July, 1985. The filter housing dome was renoved, filter elements were removed and inspected and found to be clogged. New elements were installed and the housing dome was reinstalled. The filter was tested satisfactorily. All work is complete.

Chemical Addition System Sampling Valve CA-V Repairs (valve was binding during its cycle) were completed in July,1985. The operator and the operator mounting plate were removed from the valve yoke assembly. The valve was disassembled and a new stem and disc assembly installed. A new operator mounting plate was fabricated and installed on the valve yoke. The valve operator was reinstalled and the valve was tested satisfactorily. A motor support was designed and installed.

Local leak rate testing was performed satisfactorily. All work is complete.

Make-up Pump MU-P-1A - Make-up pump MU-P-1A speed increaser lube system repairs (low lube oil pressure) were completed during the month. The lube system check valves were cleaned and inspected, the motor-driven and shaft-driven lube oil pumps were replaced, and tubing fittings were tightened. The lube oil system and pump were tested satisfactorily. The problem is suspected to have been a result of air binding caused by a loose fitting. All work is complete.

Weste Disposal Liquid Pumps WDL-P-13A/B - Reclaimed boric acid pump WDL-P-13A overhaul and modification (low discharge pressure) was completed during July, 1985. The pump was disassembled and overhauled and a 5-1/2" diameter impeller was installed. The pump was reassembled and tested satisfactorily. The disassembly of WDL-P-13B and its overhaul and modification is in progress.

1 Work will continue in August, 1985.

. Screen Wash & Ventilation Pump SW-P-2A - Screen wash pump SW-P-2A repairs (tube nut found loose while trying to repack lower stuffing box) commenced during July, 1985. The pump was removed and disassembled and component inspection is in progress. Repairs are expected to complete in August,1985.

Nuclear Instrumentation (NI-1) - NI-1 (Source Range) began operating erratically.

Inspection work is in progress to determine and correct the problem. The problem is suspected to be in the preamp board.

Rx Building High Range Monitors (RM-G-22 & 23) - Cables were replaced to these two radiation monitors to ensure environmental qualification. This work will continue into August, 1985.

Will refueling or resumption of operation thereafter require a technical specification change or other license amendment?

If answer is yes, in general, what vill these be?

If answer is no, has the reload fuel design and core configuration been reviewed by your Plant Safety Review Committee to determine whether any unreviewed safety questions are associated with the core reload (Ref. 10 CFR Section 50 59)?

If no such review has taken place, when is it scheduled?

Amendment No. 50, Cycle 5 reload, was approved on 3-16-79 5
