Subject:
Reactor Coolant Pump Trip Criteria Gentlemen:
The purpose of this letter is to clarify the reactor coolant pump trip criterion which is in effect at Maine Yankee. In the past, Maine Yankee procedures have required tripping reactor coolant pumps upon initiation of safety injection. It has become apparent that this criterion may not be the optimal strategy for all situations. Accordingly, we have developed a revised pump trip criterion which requires the tripping of the reactor coolant pumps with reactor coolant system subcooling equal to or less than 250F. We are currently changing our procedures to reflect the revised pump trip criterion.
Please call me if you have any questions'in this matter.
Very truly yours, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER C0bPANY k
