Dehr Congressman Brown:
I am writing to acknowledge your letter of October 4,1904, comenting on the hRC proposed rule to limit the use of highly enriched uranium in dcmastic research and test reactors. The views you express will be carefully con-sidered.
The issue being addressed is a difficul.t. one and the NRC approech described in the proposed rule requires careful consideration'. The NRC has received almost one hundred comment letters through mid-October with three weeks still remaining in the comment period. As you know, the proposed rule was also the subject of a Congressional hearing, held jointly by the Subconnittees on Energy Development and Applications and Energy Research and Production of the Comittee on Science and Technology.
You can be assured that the NRC will consider and evaluate all coments regard-ing the proposed rule and will attempt to justify its responses and fic.a1 action in a reasonable and prudent manner.
