McGuire Nuclear Station - Unit I Docket No. 50-369 i
. Emergency Response Data System (ERDS) Changes Duke Power is replacing Operator Aid Computer (OAC) systems at all nuclear units. The replacement vendor is Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC). The ERDS application will be integral to the new OAC. The current ERDS is a separate stand-alone system. The McGuire Unit I replacement will occur during the current refueling outage. During the replacement process ERDS will not be available; however, data will be transmitted by FAX in the event of an actual emergency. The McGuire Unit 2 ERDS is unaffected by the McGuire Unit l
1 outage. The Duke version of the SAIC ERDS application is essentially the same as the standard SAIC product already in service at several other plants, including Duke Power's 1
Catawba 1. The detailed testing that was performed during initial ERDS installation will not be performed following the replacement. The quarterly ERDS test, scheduled for April 29, will be used to demonstrate ERDS operability.

Notification Reauirements of 10CFR50 Aoocndix E.Section VI.
(1) The Plant Attribute Library (PAL)information for MNS 1 will not require revision. All communication protocols, messages, and quality codes and formats are unaffected by this modification. Therefore, there is no requirement for prior notification per 10CFR50

Appendix E,Section VI part 3.b.
(2) Pursuant to the requirements of 10CFR50 Appendix E, Section VI, part 3.a, the followin b
is a description of Data Point Library changes to be implemented on the Emergency Response Data System (ERDS) for Duke Power Company's McGuire Nuclear Station Unit 1 (MNS 1). McGuire Unit I has an ERDS designator MCl. The Data Point Library (DPL) information for MNS 1 should be revised per the attached sheets. The following comments apply to these revisions:

The computer point identification format is changed from five-character to seven-characters (site and unit have been added). New Point Data Sheets for each point i

The two RVLIS points (train A-lower range and train B-lower range) formerly used as ERDS points will be replaced by two expanded range points (train A and train B). Old point ids A13% and A1330 were deleted. New points, MIP0180 and MIP0181, were added as replacements.

The four Steam Generator pressures were replaced with processed points which are the average of the three channels of pressures for each generator. Old point ids A1022, A1023, A1024, and A1025 were deleted and replaced with MIP1904, MIP1905, MIP1906, and MIP1907, respectively.
d.
The Wind Speed points A1069 and Al183 which were instantaneous points were replaced with M1P0846 and MIP0848 which are 15 minute running averages of the former points.
c.
The radiation monitoring points only changed the point ID.
The changes to the DPL should be implemented by the NRC on their ERDS computer during the time frame associated with the MNS 1 ERDS unavailability (3/1/97 - 4/1/97.) An electronic copy of the DPL (in Microsoft Access) is available upon request.
