ED20200031, Supplement to NAC's Request for a Revision to Certificate of Compliance No. 9356 for the NAC MAGNATRAN Transportation Package, March 12,2020 NAC International (NAC), hereby, commits to revise MAGNATRAN SAR Table 2.1.4-1, "ASME Code Alternatives for MAGNATRAN Components" for the "Fuel Basket Assembly" code alternative.
As part of the current licensing action NAC proposed changes to this code alternative. However, replacing that proposed change with the one below will make the code alternative align with existing approved NRC exemptions to the MAGNASTOR system. The MAGNASTOR exemptions were already approved are; McGuire (ML20098C982); Catawba (ML20098D956); Kewaunee (ML20098D404); and ZionSolutions (ML20098E7I0).
MAGNATRAN SAR Table 2.1.4-1, "ASME Code Alternatives for MAGNATRAN Components", page 2.1.4-6 entry for "Fuel Basket Assembly" the description for "Alternative, Justification and Compensatory Measures" will be revised to:
"Fuel basket materials fabricated from Carbon Steel ~ %", may optionally have impact tests performed on specimens oriented in a direction parallel to the principal rolling direction of the plate, provided that the results from the tests are scaled down to 67% of the measured values before comparing to acceptance criteria Table NG-2331(a)(l) at the Lowest Service Temperature (LST) of-40°F.".
