INTERIM REPORT - DER 85-25 POIENTIAL REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY ARIZONA NUCLEAR POWER PROJECT PVNGS UNIT 2 I.

Potential Problem Unit 2 Auxiliary Feedwater Pump AFA-P01 trips on overspeed whcn starting from a cold condition after receiving an AFAS-2 signal. 'Ihis failure was not repeated on subsequent AFAS-2 starts when the syst s was hot nor was it expericnced when starting on AFAS 1 either hot or cold. 'Ihe fact that Unit 1 has tested satisfactorily, this condition is isolated to Unit 2.

Unit 3 has not been tested at this time.

II. Approach To and Status Of Proposed Resolution Bechtel Engineering is studying this proble to determine the root cause of the failure, reportability, and technical justification for corrective action.

III. Projected Completion of Corrective Action and Submittal of the Final Report The complete evaluation and final report are forecast to be ccrupleted by Septmber 26, 1985.
