CATEGORICAL EXCLUSION FOR AMENDMENT REQUEST DATED AUGUST 22, 1985 By letter dated August 22, 1985, the Northeast Nuclear Energy Company, on behalf of itself and its partners, requested a license amendment to allow the storage and use of special nuclear materials in the form of sources and detectors at MNPS, Unit 3. The present license permits only the storage of such materials at Unit 3. The requested amendment would allow the use of special nuclear materials for.the purpose of testing and/or calibration at MNPS, Unit 3, at this time. Approved radiation. protection measures will be employed for the .
storage and handling of all radioactive materials licensed for MNPS, Unit 3.
Accordingly, the staff has concluded that the following conditions have been met:
- 1. There is no significant increase in the type or significant increase in the amount of any effluents that may be released offsite,
- 2. There is no significant increase in individual or cumulative occupational radiation exposure,
- 3. .There is no significant construction impact, and
- 4. There is no significant increase .in the potential for or consequences from radiological accidents.

Therefore, in accordance with 10 CFR 51.22(c)(11), neither an Environmental Assessment nor an Environmental Impact Statement is warranted for this proposed action.
