Introduction This report provides the lower bounds of the mechanical propenies (yield, flow, and tensile strength) for the population of tubes in the ANO Unit 2 steam generators.
These lower bounds are establishes as 95% probability /95% confidence bounds. They i
provide that at a 95% confidence, no more than 5% of the tubes will have material properties lower than these values. The bounds are computed using standard non-parametric statistical methods for confidence bounds on quantiles.

Computational Method Non-Parametric Confidence Bounds The desired values of mechanical properties are the 95% lower bound evaluated at a 95% confidence level. The most statistically conservative way to compute this is by a non-parametric confidence bound on the 95% quantile. Reference 2 provides methods 4
for both small (n<20) and large (n>20) sample sizes. Since the number of tubes in each SG is large the large sample approximation is valid.
Equation 1 shows the computation:

r = r th order statistic for the ascending set of material property values 1
p = the desired quantile (95% lower bound = 5% or 0.05) w,,,2 = the standardized normal deviate for probability a / 2 a = the desired two-sided confidence level (10%) for a one side level of 5%
n = the sample size (number of tubes)
This gives a one-sided order statistic of 372 for each of the ANO-2 SG's. To use this the material property value for each of the SG tubes is ordered lowest to highest. The 372"' lowest value is then the non-parametric 95/95 lower limit.
95/95 Mechanical Property Values Table I gives the resulting values for Yield Stress, Flow Stress, and Tensile Stress for each ANO-2 SG. Flow stress is determined as 0.5 times the sum of the Yield and Tensile stresses.
