Subject:

Request for Approval to Implement ASME Code,Section III, Division 1,1983 Edition, Up to Winter 1983 Addenda, for Applicatica to Specific Technical Issues

Dear Sir:

We request your approval to implement the 1983 edition of the ASME Code,Section III, Division 1, including addenda through winter 1983, for application to specific technical issues.

Currently, the approved [10CFR50.55(a)] code addenda is the summer 1982 to the 1980 edition. However, Reference (b) states that the Commission proposes to amend the regulations to incorporate the 1983 edition of Section III with addenda up to and including the summer 1984 in 10CFR50.55(a).

Our request is thus consistent with the current NRC position on approved code usage. In addition, activities currently underway on-site will benefit from use of the updated code addenda.

When specific provisions of code addenda later than those established in the FSAR and design specifications are utilized, all related requirements will be satisfied in accordance with Paragraph NCA-ll40 of Section III.
