IV. SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES l l

Transition Period activities continued on schedule during the third quarter of 1996. l l

l Decontamination and removal activities, which are providing experience and information helpful to planning, continued with the removal of the Positive Displacement Pump.

Various components and structures were removed associated with configuring the plant for decontamination, packaging, and ease of movement of materials during full scale decommissioning. These included removing an area cooler and knockout panels on lower elevations of the Auxiliary Building. Work commenced on a new access through the north wall of the Auxiliary Building.

Component removal inside the Containment Building continued with removal of Reactor Coolant System piping and surrounding interferences. The primary purpose of component removals in the Containment is to reduce general area radiation levels. The reactor coolant pumps will be removed, packaged as their own shipping containers, and shipped to the U.S. Ecology site near lianford, Washington, during the fourth quarter of 1996.

Licensing activities continued in support of the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) schedule. Responses to the State of Oregon's questions on the 10 CFR Part 72 license application submittal and the 10 CFR Part 50 License amendment submittal were completed. A radiation release survey commenced for that portion of the site on which the ISFSI will be located.

Design and analysis activities associated with shipment of the reactor vessel and the reactor internals as one package continued. A revision to the Decommissioning Plan will be submitted for EFSC approval during the fourth quarter of 1996.

The diesel fuel oil tanks were excavated and removed during the third quarter.
