Implementation of TMI Action Item II.K.3.5, " Automatic Trip of Reactor Coolant Pumps" (Generic Letter No. 85-12)

Dear Sir:

Yankee chose to perform a plant-specific analysis for TMI Action Item II.K.3.5. That analysis was submitted to the USNRC in August 1984

[ Reference (b)]. The USNRC reviewed this report against Generic Letters 83-10 (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e), and deteamined that additional information was needed to complete their review [ Reference (d)]. Yankee's response to these questions were discussed in a meeting with the USNRC staff on March 13, 1985. Questions not resolved in the meeting or requiring a written response were recently provided to the USNRC [ Reference (g)].

Concurrent with these actions, Yankee submitted a schedule for TMI Action Item I.C.1, "The Upgrade of Emergency Operating Procedures" { Reference (c)].

This schedule requires Yankee's emergency operating procedures to be upgraded prior to the startup of Cycle 19. The USNRC concurred with this schedule in July 1985 [ Reference (f)].
