PROGRESS REPORT ON THE REMOVAL OF THERMO-LAG FIRE BARRIER MATERIAL Gentlemen:
In response to your recent verbal request, Georgia Power Company is submitting a progress report concerning the removal of Thermo-lag material that is used as a fire barrier.
At VEGP-1, all Thermo-lag material used as a fire barrier to meet the requirements of a fire, safe, and alternate shutdown (CMEB 9.5-1) has been removed with one exception.
The Thermo-lag material inside containment that is used as a radiant energy shield above RCP-1 has not been removed. The affected circuit is for PT-403, a RCS wide range pressure transmitter. This material is scheduled to be removed during 1R7 (Fall 1997) refueling outage, which is consistent with the schedule previously submitted to the NRC.
The other affected circuits were either re-routed or enclosed in an alternate fire barrier.
At VEGP-2, all the Thermo-lag material used to meet fire, safe, and alternate shutdown (CMED 9.5-1) has been removed. Replacement barriers or enclosures for the circuits that O,3 were not re-routed are in the final stages of construction. This work is expected to be 3
completed by December 31,1996, and is consistent with our previously submitted schedule that indicated this effort would be completed by startup of Unit 2 from the spring 1998 refueling outage.
