ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF CPC'S RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 84-15 FOR DIESEL GENERATOR RELIABILITY Re:
Big Rock Point Plant On July 2, '1984, NRC issued Generic Letter 84-15 " Proposed Staff Actions to Improve and Maintain Diesel Generator Reliability" to all licensees of oper-ating reactors. We have received your response to Generic letter 84-15 (GL-84-15) and have completed a review of its contents.
GL-84-15 requested that licensees furnish information concerning: (1) their intended actions or current programs to minimize " cold fast start" surveil-lance testing of the emergency diesel generators (EDG); (2) the reliability of their EDG, and, (3) their current programs, if any, to attain and maintain diesel generator reliability goals. Coninents were also requested regarding proposed EDG reliability programs and Technical Specifications.
The staff has conducted a review of your response to GL-84-15, dated October 1, 1984. We have found your intent to continue to use currently existing Big Rock Point (BRP) Technical Specification Section 11.4.5.3 for EDG surveillance testing an adequate approach to minimizing " cold fast start" surveillance.
The staff acknowledges the reduction in' failures experienced at BRP for EDG testing and the proven reliability of the EDG.
All of tne BRP EDG Reliability Data and associated connents and all of the additional comments provided in your response to GL-84-15, are being reviewed.
The conclusions of their evaluation, including recommendations, if any, will be provided to you if the staff determines that changes to the existing pro-gram at BRP are warranted.
