Grand Gulf Unit 1 - Salem ATWS Events, Generic l.etter 83-28, Position 3.1.3 Post Maintenance Testing Generic letter 83-28 (GL 83-28) requested licensees of operating reactors, applicants for operating licenses and holders of construction permits to respond to certain positions resulting from staff's review of the anticipated transient without scram (ATWS) events at the Salem Nuclear Plant. By letters dated November 4, 1983, December 14, 1984, and January 16, 1985, Mississippi Power and I.ight Company provided, among other things, responses to GL 83-28 Item 3.1.3 " Post Maintenance Testing (Reactor Trip System Components)."

The NRC staff has completed its review of MP&l's responses to GL 83-28, Position 3.1.3. The staff's safety evaluation is enclosed. Based on its review, the staff concludes that the licensee's responses are acceptable for Grand Gulf Unit 1.
