Dear Mr. Chappell:
Amersham requests a Type B(U)-85 approval for the model 3750A package. This package is signed to transport up to 405 kCi of Co-60 as special form sources. The package has been
.asigned, tested and manufactured against the IAEA-85(as amended 1990),10 CFR Part 71 and 49 CFR 173 requirernents for a Type B(U)-85 package.
The 3750A package is a modified version of the model 3300 which has been previously approved as a Type B(U) package under Great Britain certificate number GB/3300A/B(U)-85 and the USDOT endorsment number USA /0408/B(U). The package is constructed in accordance with the Quality Assurance program approved by the NRC under certificate number 71-0040 and in accordance with the ISO-9001 certification held by Amersham.
I have enclosed 6 copies of the Safety Analysis Report for your review. The Safety Analysis Report demonstrates the ability of the 3750A to meet all of the Type B(U)-85 requirements. We have incorporated comments made by yourself and your reviewers during our earlier meetings and greatly appreciate the early input and involvement of your staff in the initial stages of the Safety Analysis Report.
