REPORTING REQUIREMENTS OF GENERIC LETTER (GL) 94-03, "INTERGRANULAR STRESS CORROSION CRACKING OF CORE SHROUDS IN BOILING WATER REACTORS," LIMERICK GENERATING STATION, UNIT 1 (TAC NO. M96071)

Dear Mr. Hunger:

4 In your letter dated March 18, 1996, you provided the inspection results for ,

the core shroud of the Limerick Generating Station (LGS), Unit 1. These l results were submitted according to the reporting requirements of Generic Letter (GL) 94-03, "Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking of Core Shrouds in

Boiling Water Reactors (BWR)."

We understand that the inspections _were conducted according to the guidance provided by the BWR Vessel and Internal Projects in the document, "BWR Core Shroud Inspection and Flaw Evaluation Guidelines," dated March 1995, and that LGS, Unit 1 is a Category B plant. This category has a lower potential for i shroud cracking and requires a lower number of weld inspections. The submittal reports inspections and flaw evaluations performed during the last LGS, Unit I refueling outage on welds H3, H4, H5, and H7, as recommended by

! the guidance document. Also, you found minor cracking in the H3 weld and i reported the total combined length of indications as 14.4 inches. This

represents 4% of the examined length, which was 55% of the total weld length.

The staff finds the results of the inspection and evaluation acceptable, and concludes that they fulfill your commitments to GL 94-03.

4 Sincerely,

/S/
