PUBLIC MEETING - NINE MILE POINT, UNIT 1
Dear Mr. Sylvia:
This refers to a public transcribed meeting conducted between NRC and Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation on January 6, 1997, at the NRC Headquarters Office.
The purpose of the meeting, held at your request, was to discuss issues associated with NRC enforcement action EA 96-079.
Specifically, your staff discussed a proposed Severity Level IV violation involving the failure to notify the NRC of a condition outside of design basis of the facility. The discussions provided an opportunity for a candid exchange of information, and were beneficial to the NRC staff understanding your position on this issue.
The NRC staff is reviewing this matter and will respond separately in a future letter.
Copies of the transcript, our slides utilized during the presentation, and a list of those attending the meeting are enclosed.
A copy of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the PDR.
