Honorable Bill Bradley United States Senator 1 Greentree Center, Suite 303 Route 73 Marlton, NJ 08053 RE:

Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Spent Fuel Rods Storage Facility

Dear Senator Bradley:

The issue of storing spent fuel rods in the United States has become a serious concern for Lacey Township, as well as those neighboring townships that also house a Nuclear Generating Station.

This being the case, I was very concerned when an article in the April 13, 1995 edition of the Asbury Press Press j

was brought to my attention (copy attached), indicating that the Clinton administration intends to approve a plan later this year that calls for as much as 21 tons of used nuclear fuel to be brought into the United States from Europe over a 13-year period.

As you are aware, Lacey Township is home to the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station (OCNGS) which provides approximately 12 million dollars in revenue to the Township, and is the largest employer in southern Ocean County.

OCNGS may be forced to shut down as early as 1996 because it has no room to store spent fuel.

The Federal Government has taken decades and spent hundreds of millions of dollars, yet there is no place for un to store our fuel.

My concern, as well as the concern of the Mayor and Township Committee, and many Lacey Township residents, is how can the Federal Government import and store fuel from other countries l

here, when Nuclear Generating Stations in the United States are l

being forced to store spent fuel on site?

Where are they l

planning to store this fuel, and why can't OCNGS store its fuel i

there?
