Subject:
Closeout of IE Bulletin 79-04 Gentlemen:
Reference (e) identifies Maine Yankee as one of ten facilities for which IE Bulletin 79-04 is considered open. A review of our files indicates that the actions required to close out this bulletin have been accomplished.
However, our manner of transmitting this closecut information did not specifically reference IE Bulletin 79-04 As reported in Reference (b), five Velan swing check valves were identified as having incorrect weights.
Three 4" swing check valves in the high pressure safety injection piping were determined to weigh 130// instead of the 100// listed on the valve drawing and two 3" swing check valves in the containment spray piping were found to weigh 75// compared to the 60/l drawing weight.

MN-85-165 These minor weight discrepancies were subsequently evaluated and found acceptable as part of the rigorous IE Bulletin 79-14 review, Reference (c),
and the review of the inherent conservatism of Stone & Webster's chart method, Reference (d).
We trust this information is satisfactory; however, if you have any furtner questions, please contact us.
