Dear Sir,

This communication is in response to your letter dated September 18, 1985 regarding the routine safety inspection conducted by K.R. Ridgway on August 26 - 28, 1985 at The Ohio State University Nuclear. Reactor Laborntory (Docket No. 50 - 150).

It is our understanding that we must reply to one Level V item of non-compliance and one deviation. Our response is outlined below.

Item 1 Notice of Violation, Failure to Calibrate a Radiation survey instrument and Pocket Dosimeters as required by Technical Specification 9.3 A.

Action Taken: This item has been reviewed by each Reactor Staff member and a summary of the inspection has been

~ distributed to the staff ar.d the Reactor Operational Committee.

B.

Corrective Action to be Taken: Revision of Procedure RS-07 NRL Portable Survey Instrument Calibration will be completed and include the requirement for calibration of the exit radiation survey instrument.

Tne Maintenance board will be revised to include a weekly review of all maintenance requirements to assure timely completion including quarterly calibration of pocket dosimeters, i

Full Compliance shall be achieved by January 1,1986.

Item 2 Notice of Deviation, Failure to Follow Procedures A.

Action Taken: This item has been reviewed by each Reactor Staff member and a summary of the inspection has been distributed to the staff and Reactor Operations Committee.

B.

Corrective Action to be Taken: A summary of items requiring SRO notification and intialing will be distributed to and reviewed by the Reactor Staff. Procedure OM-08 Reactor Operation Logbook Entries will be revised to include requirements on RY-4 use and documentation.

C.

Full Compliance shall be achieved by January 1, 1986.
