Dear Dr. Grace:

During an ongoing Unit I refueling / maintenance outage, fire barrier LCOs were initiated, respectively, on July 4 and 8, 1985, for fire doors 303 and 301 of the Unit 1 Reactor Building. These doors provide personnel access to the Reactor Building 50' elevation from the roof area of the Units 1 and 2 common Radwaste Building and from the Unit 1 Turbine Building. The subject LCOs were initiated to allow repair of problems af fecting closing of door 303 and weather stripping, threshold seal, and frame stop problems affecting door 301. Respectively, on July 11 and 15, 1985, the seven-day specified time frames of the subject LCOs were exceeded. Until the problems affecting the doors are resolved, appropriate stationed fire watches will be maintained.

Very truly yours, C. R. Dietz, General Manager Brunswick Steam Electric Plant MJF/ag i
