APPENDIX A NOTICE OF VIOLATION General Electric Company Docket Nos. 50-70 Vallecitos Nuclear Center License Nos. TR-1
' General Electric Test Reactor (GETR)
As a result of the inspection conducted during the period of August 12-15, 1985, and in accordance with NRC Enforcement Policy 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C, the following violation was identified:
A. 10 CFR Part 20.202(b)(2), " Radiation Area" is defined as "any area, accessible to personnel, in which there exists radiation, originating in whole or in part within licensed material, at such levels that a major portion of the body could receive in any one hour a dose in excess of 5 millirem, or in 5 consecutive days a dose in excess of 100 millirem."
10 CFR Part 20.203(b), " Radiation Areas" requires: "Each radiation area shall be conspicuously posted with a sign or signs bearing the radiation caution symbol and the words: CAUTION - RADIATION AREA."
Contrary to the above, on August 15, 1985, an area adjacent to the GETR tank farm had radiation levels such that a major portion of the whole body could receive up to 16 millirem in one hour and no signs were posted at the entry point from the GETR control room.
This is a Severity Level V Violation (Supplement IV).
Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, no response is necessary in view of timely manner in which you corrected the items.
