SUPJECT: REPORTING REQUIREMENTS EXEMPTION RECUEST Re:

Big Rock Point Plant By letter dated July 2,1985, Consumers Power Company (CPC) requested an exenption from the reportire requirements contained in 10 CFR 50.72 and 50.73 as allowable under 10 CFR 50.12(a) for any reouirement and under 10 CFR 50.7?f f) for written reporting requirements.

Specifically, CFC's request for exemption is related to the recuirement to report all Farual and automatic actuations of the Reactor Protective Systen. The staff has received similar requests for extrption from other licensees sirce these reporting requirements becane effective on January 1,1984.

In light of these requests for exenptice ard various licersee reports received, the staff is currently reevaluating the recuirements set forth in 20.72 and 50.73. The Commission currertly plans to address yenr concerns on a generic basis as part of this reevaluation.

Your request for exemption referenced above, therefore, is denied.

Upon ccrpletion of the staff's reevaluation of the requirements in 50,72 and 50.73, CPC ray resubmit its request if CPC concludes that the concerns delineated in the recuest for exemption have not been adequately addressed.
