Final 10CFR50.55(e) Report: Improper and Mixed Incompatible Greases in Fan Motor Bearings (CDR-85-00-08)

Dear Sir:

In Reference (b), we reported a potential 10CFR50.55(e) deficiency regarding the use of improper grease and the mixing of incompatible greases in fan motor bearings. This potential deficiency has been evaluated and determined to be nonreportable per 10CFR50.55(e).

The initial reporting of this potential deficiency was based solely on color observation to determine the grease type. Subsequently, grease samples were analyzed and determined to be the correct base type which was specified for the application.

To address any generic concerns, we performed a review of existing preventative maintenance procedures to ensure that the correct grease is specified for future applications. This is our final report on this item.
