Vice President, Nuclear Operations P. O. Box 764 (167)

Columbia, SC 29218 Gentlemen:

SUBJECT:

EVALUATION OF SITE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF JHE VHF RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has entered into an arrangement with Boise Interagency Fire Cache (part of the Department of Interior) for Boise to evaluate nuclear power plant sites for the establishment of an emergency VHF radio system. This radio system, if installed, will be used as a supporting and backup communications means by the NRC in emergency situations. Your V. C. Summer site has been selected for evaluation on June 19, 1985.

Members of Boise Interagency Fire Cache will require escorted access while visiting your facility. Preferably this escort should be someone who is familiar with communications systems. Boise's access will be limited to emergency response facilities and the surrounding site.
