Gentlemen:

SUBJECT:

REPORT NO. 50-395/85-17

On March 25-29, 1985, the NRC inspected activities authorized by NRC Operating

License No. NPF-12 for the Virgil C. Summer Station.

At the conclusion of the

inspection, the findings were discussed with those members of your staff,

identified in the enclosed inspection report.

The purpose of this inspection was to review licensee receipt, evaluation, and

implementation of actions determined by the licensee to be appropriate for

vendor technical information received from Westinghouse and other selected

equipment vendors.

Areas examined during the inspection and our findings are

discussed in the enclosed report.

Within these areas, the inspection consisted

of an examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with

personnel, and observations by the inspector.

While no instances were identified where you failed to meet NRC requirements,

one open item was identified which involved Westinghouse Data Letters received

by South Carolina Electric and Gas Company which had not been evaluated to

determine which Data Letters were applicable to the V. C. Summer Station and

to perform a technical evaluation of those found to be applicable.

This is

considered an open item and is discussed in more detail in Section 5 of the

inspection report.

This item will be referred to the NRC Region II Office for

appropriate followup action and resolution.
