Subject: Inspection No. 50-309/85-11
This refers to the routine safeguards inspection conducted by Mr. R. J. Bailey
of this office on April 28 - May 2, 1985 at Maine Yankee Atomic Power Station,
Wisscaset, Maine of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-36 and to the
discussions of our findings held by Mr. Bailey with Mr. Garrity and other
members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection. This also refers
to telephone discussions between Mr. Bailey and Mr. B. Marshal, Director of
Security, on May 8 and 13, 1985.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I
Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative
records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Our inspector also verified the steps you had taken to correct the violations
brought to your attention in our letters dated March 10, 1981, July 13, 1983,
August 2, 1984 and December 24, 1984. We have no further questions regarding
your action at this time.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
Sections of the enclosed inspection report contain details of your security
program that have been determined to be exempt from public disclosure in accord-
ance with either 10 CFR 73.21 (Safeguards Information) or 10 CFR 9.5(a)(4)
(Commercial or Financial Information). Therefore, the sections so identified
in the inspection report will not be placed in the NRC Public Document Room
and will receive limited distribution. The inspection report cover sheet and
the remaining portions of the inspection report will be placed in the Public
Document Room, in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a).
