4/A December 6, 1996 At a meeting held December 3, 1996 the Board of i Directors of the Lake County Chambers of Commerce passed a motion in support of the proposed merger of j Centerior Energy and Ohio Edison into a new holding company call FirstEnergy. We feel that this will form a strong competitor in the-energy market and retain jobs and revenue in the area. C((C.fl~_E1. . ~ ~ -. 1 FE~~I E TT LE l ) RESOLUTION 17-1996 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE MERGER OF CENTERIOR I T K T E "ETE ' ENERGY CORPORATION AND OHIO EDISON UNDER A NEW HOLDING COMPANY CALLED FIRST-ENERGY WHEREAS, Centerior is a valued corporate citizen, employer and taxpayerin Perry Villa;;e;and L.B _E 3 :STTE i WHEREAS, the merger of Centerior Energy Corporation and Ohio Edison would create a $5 billion, Fortune 300 company; and WHEREA5, this new company would become the nation's 1Ith largest i investor-owned electric system; Ohio's largest single taxpayer, with $516 million in annual payments; and one of the state top 20 employers; and E"5PHTHT'UCT l WHEREAS, the merger would keepjobs in Ohio; create a larger enterprise with more resources - offering customers better electric service and a wider array of energy-related products; and WHEREAS, the combination of the contiguous service areis will further assist community and state economic development efforts in attracting
