The Board of Township Trustees of Ashtabula Township met in a Regular Meeting December 4, 1996 at 7:30 p.m. at 2718 North Ridge East, Ashtabula, Ohio.
Present at the meeting were Sam Bucci - Chairman, Mary Ann Smith, Vice-Chairman, Cosmos D. Ray, Trustee and Ralph l
McQuaide, Clerk.
Mr. Ray moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLUTION supporting the merger of Centerior Energy Corporation and Ohio Edison under a new holding company called First Energy.
WHEREAS, Centerior is a valued corporate citizen, employer and taxpayer in Ashtabula Township; and WHEREAS, the merger of Centerior Energy Corporation and Ohio Edison would create a $5 billion, Fortune 300 company; and WHEREAS, this new company would become the nation's lith.
largest investor-owned electric system; Ohio's largest single taxpayer, with $516 million in annual payments; and one of the state top 20 employers; and 4
WHEREAS, the merger would keep jobs in Ohio; create a larger enterprise with more resources - offering customers better electric service r.ad a wider array of energy-related products; and I
WHEREAS, the combination of the contiguous service areas will l
further assist community and state economic development efforts in l
attracting jobs over a wider region of Ohio; and WHEREAS, a rate reduction plan has been filed with the Public Utilities Commiccion of Ohio which would greatly benefit Centerior customers with rate reductions commencing after the merger is approved.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Township Trustees of Ashtabula Township:
Section 1.
That the Board of Township Trustees of Ashtabula Township hereby urges state and federal regulators to quickly approve the First Energy merger so that Centerior Energy customers and employees can begin to enjoy the benefits as soon as possible.
Section 2.
That copies of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor George V. Voinovich, Ohio Consumers' Counsel Robert S.
Tongren, members of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, members of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the appropriate members of the Ohio House and Senate.

Mrs. Smith seconded the motion to adopt the resolution.
On the call of the roll on the adoption of the resolution Mr.
Bucci voted yes, Mrs. Smith voted yes and Mr. Ray voted yes.
