1985 vuesswaposeen Dr. J. Nelson Grace Serial No. 529A Regional Administrator N0/sbe Region II Docket Nos. 50-338 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Cons:ission 50-339 101 Marietta Street, Suite 2900 License Nos. NPF-4 Atlanta, Georgia 30323 NPF-7

Dear Dr. Grace:

In our letter of September 26, 1984, which was in response to a notice of a violation and a deviation on IE Inspection Report Nos. 50-338/84-27 and 30-339/84-27, we stated that the target completion date for the restora-tion of the radiation monitoring systems to operable was January 15, 1985.

Since that time, significant progress has been made to achieve this goal.

However, the radiation monitor, RM-SW-109 and its associated sample pump, have not been made operable. The repair of this radiation monitor has been a high priority item involving many hours of engineering evaluation, main-tenance and repair and consultation with the vendor.

Our present goal for the completion of this item is May 31, 1985. The radiation monitor required to be operable by Technical Specifications (RM-SW-108) has been made operable and the manual sampling of the process stream has been terminated.

The NRC Resident Inspectors have be'en kept informed of the status of this item.

Very truly yours, s
