As you leave the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, we wish to express our most sincere appreciation for your significant contributions to the safety and regulation of the nuclear power program in the United States.
Over the past eight years, your exemplary service as a member of the ACRS has greatly contributed to the advancement of nuclear safety and to improvements in the regulatory process.
Your expertise on numerous complex technical and policy issues in the areas of thermal hydraulics, fire protection, severe accidents, steam generator integrity, and evolutionary and passive plant designs has been invaluable to the Committee and the agency.
Your work on the thermal-hydraulic aspects of the operating plants and evolutionary and passive plant designs was laudable, as well as your work on emergency core cooling system issues, Thermo-Lag fire barriers, thermal hydraulic research program, thermal hydraulic / severe accident codes, decay heat removal systems, and resolution of numerous generic safety issues, to name a few.
You have contributed significantly by providing unique technical expertise and an insightful perspective to the work of the Committee.
The professional manner in which you approached your duties and your impartiality in dealing with differing technical views have made your accomplishments and contributions all the more effective.
