DOCKETS 50-266 AND 50-301 IN-PROCESS AUDIT OF CONTROL ROOM DESIGN REVIEW POINT BEACH NUCLEAR. PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 On July 31, 1984, Wisconsin Electric Power Company submitted to the NRC the Control Room Design Review (CRDR) Program Plan for Point Beach Nuclear Plant.
In a January 22, 1985 letter commenting on the plan your staff requested to perform an in-process audit of the review in May 1985.
Our May 21, 1985 letter to you requested that-the required CRDR Summary Report submittal date be deferred from October 31, 1985 to March 31, 1986 and that the in process NRC audit be deferred.
This letter confirms that the week of December 2-6, 1985 is acceptable for the in-process audit, as discussed with Mr. T.
G.
Colburn of your staff.g This schedule will allow the actual CRDR work to be at the same point at which your staff indicated interest in conducting the audit based on the original Program Plan schedule.
By December 2, 1985, we plan to have completed most of the CRDR execution phase tasks and begun compilation and assessment of the resulting human engineering deficiencies (HED's).
The CRDR team is scheduled to formally review the historical document review and operating personnel survey task reports in late September 1985 and the control room survey and system function review and task analysis (SFRTA) task reports in mid-October 1985.

R. Denton September 23, 1985 Page 2 scenario walk-throughs on the full-scale photographic mockup of the Point Beach control room in the first two weeks of November 1985.
Verification of instrumentation is scheduled to be completed shortly after the walk-throughs are completed.
The data analysis and reduction and assessment of HED's will then continue into early 1986 such that a summary report can be submitted to you in March i
1986.
We believe the above date to be an appropriate audit point because it will allow the Staff to review methods used to identify HED's, sample the thoroughness of the review, and identify any potential remaining weaknesses in the Program Plan prior to the final resolution of HED's.
