Dear Sir:
The NRC was notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in the referenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty (30) days.
Due to the extensive analysis and evaluation required from Cooper Energy, an Interim Report is attached.
It is now expected that this information will be finalized by September 1, 1985, at which time a complete report will be submitted.

POTENTIAL REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY I
ARIZONA NUCLEAR POWER PROJECT PVNGS UNIT 1, 2, 3 I.
POTENTIAL' PROBLEM Unit 2 emergency Diesel Generator, Train B, Tag No. 2MDGBH01, supplied by Cooper Energy, has a broken rocker arm assembly for intake valves on the right bank number five cylinder.
The condition was identified during investigation to determine the source of a sharp metallic noise. coming from the rocker cover assembly when the diesel receives ~a stop signal and is coasting down. To date no other Diesels have experienced this problem.
II.
APPROACH TO AND STATUS OF PROPOSED RESOLUTION Bechtel Engineering is currently corresponding with Cooper Energy to determine reportability and technical justification for corrective action. Cooper energy is awaiting a purchase order, and the materials laboratory report is forecast for completion six weeks after receiving the purchase order.

III.
PROJECTED COMPLETION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION AND SUBMITTAL OF THE FINAL REPORT The complete. evaluation and Final Report are forecast to be completed by September 1, 1985.
