Pursuant to your request GPU Nuclear (GPUN) Inc., operator of the Oyster Creek Nuclear i
Generating Station (OCNGS), Operating License No. DPR-16, makes the following response to your Generic Letter 96-06, referenced above.

GPUN will complete the actions requested by the Generic Letter.

In response to the Requested Actions GPUN will determine: (a.)ifcontainment air cooler cooling water systems are susceptible to either water hammer or two-phase flow i
conditions during any postulated DBA conditions; and, (b.) if piping systems that l
penetrate the containment are susceptible to thermal expansion of fluids so that i
overpressurization of the piping could occur.

GPUN will submit a written summary report containing the requested information within l
the time period requested (i.e., by January 28,1997) or will advise the NRC of an i
alternative date for submittal if the results of the industry meeting held on October 29, 1996 indicate that more extensive analysis and/or testing may be required.

If modifications are required to ameliorate conditions causing systems to be susceptible to the l
phenomena described in the Generic Letter, a description of the corrective actions will be submitted to the NRC on a date which will be determined and provided at that time.
