SUBJECT:
EVALUATION OF THE SECOND 10-YEAR INTERVAL INSERVICE TESTING PROGRAM REQUESTS FOR RELIEF - CALLAWAY PLANT, UNIT 1 (TAC NO. M95475)
Dear Mr. Schnell:
By letter dated May 22, 1996, Union Electric Company, the licensee for the Callaway Plant, submitted revised relief requests to the inservice testing program. The revised program included changes made in response to the NRC's safety evalustion dated June 2, 1995, for the second 10-year inservice testing program interval. The staff has completed its review of the proposed program relief requests. The basis for the staff's conclusions are contained in the attached safety evaluation.
The staff has determined that the proposed testing for Requests for Relief P-02, EN-02, e.nd EN-05, provides reasonable assurance of operational readiness of the subject systems and that the Code examination requirements are impractical. Therefore, relief is granted pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(f)(6)(i).
The granting of such relief is authorized by law, giving due consideration to the burden upon the licensee that could result if the Code requirements were imposed on the facility.
Sincerely, Original signed by:
