Dear Mayor Wall:
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), as part of its responsibility of regulating nuclear power plants, periodically evaluates the performance of its licensees through a program called the Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP).
Through this program, we review and evaluate our licensees' performance in the four major categories of:
Plant Operations, j
Maintenance, Engineering, and Plant Support. The Plant Support category j
includes an assessmeN of licensee performance with regard to emergency preparedness.
On December 2, 1996, representatives of the NRC will meet with the management of the Florida Power Corporation to discuss the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant's performance over the past 12 months.
You are invited to attend this meeting as an observer.
Subsequent to this meeting, we have scheduled time to meet with you, and other members of your staff as you deem appropriate, to discuss matters of mutual interest with regard to the regulation and performance of Crystal River This SALP meeting is scheduled to be conducted at 12:30 p.m. in the Site Administration Building Auditorium. The proposed meeting with you and other local and State officials will be conducted in the Site Administration Building Auditorium, shortly after the conclusion of the SALP.
Your schedule permitting, we look forward to meeting with you at that time.
