Middletown, Pennsylvania 17057

Dear Mr. Hukill:

/

Your letter dated March 19, 1985, is an appeal of the NRC staff's denial of certain relief requests for your inservice testing program (IST) for pumps and valves. Accordingly, an appeal meeting was scheduled for April 18, 1985, -

then rescheduled to April 24, 1985.

With the agreement of your staff, the appeal meeting is now postponed for at least 30 days because the NRC staff has been requested to discuss its current

~

position on leak testing of pressure isolation valves (PIV's) with the

Comittee for Review of Generic Requirements (CRGR). Many of your appeal j items involve PIV's and both you and we would benefit by delaying the appeal meeting until after the CRGR meeting which is expected within the next few weeks.

We will inform you about the outcome of the CRGE discussion and any impact on -

l your IST program. We will then reschedule the appeal meeting if it is still needed. Your staff will be kept infonned of developments by the project manager, Owen Thompson, who may be contacted at (301) 492-7471.

Sincerely, fA oh F. Stolz,' Chief i
