Gentlemen:

Subject: Inspection No. 50-354/85-24

This refers to the special team inspection conducted by Mr. S. V. Pullani of

this office on May 20-24, 1985 at Hope Creek Station, Hancocks Bridge, New

Jersey of activities authorized by NRC License No. CPPR-120 and to the discus-

sions of our findings held by Mr. Pullani with Mr. A. E. Giardino of your staff

at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examin'd during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I

Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative

records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations or deviations were observed.

Fourteen items, including nine licensing related items identified in the

enclosed inspection report as 50-354/85-24-05 through 13, remained unresolved

at the end of the inspection. During the inspection, you committed to resolve

these items expeditiously, to complete the procedural and administrative type of

actions by August 15, 1985, and to complete the required hardware modifications

by the fuel load. With respect to the nine licensing related items, you are

urged to resolve the -issues directly with our Office of Nuclear Reactor Regu-

lation, in order to expedite the licensing process.

Information contained within the enclosed inspection report has been discussed

with Mr. W. Pavincich of your staff on_May 24, 1985. During this discussion,

it was concluded that the inspection report contained no information that you

considered proprietary; therefore a copy of this letter and its enclosure are

being placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
