PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. M95415 AND M95416)
Dear Mr. Campbell:
By letter dated May 14, 1996, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) requested NRC approval of an-alternative to the valve. leakage testing requirements of the 1980 Edition, Winter 1981 Addenda, of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (the Code).
The alternative would allow CP&L to use a later edition of the Code for leakage testing of valves, including containment isolation valves.
The results of the NRC's review of this request are provided in the attached Safety Evaluation.
The NRC staff has approved use of portions of the 1989 Edition of'the ASME Code which incorporates the 1988a addenda of the Operations and Maintenance Standards, Part 10 (0M-10) for leakage rate testing of _ valves pursuant to the provisions in 10 CFR 50.55a(f)(4)(iv).
