'M 03 E Docket No.: 50-341 Dr. Wayne Jens Vice President - Nuclear Operations The Detroit Edison Company 2000 Second Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48226

Dear Mr. Jens:

Subject:

Fenni-2 Solid Radwaste PCP In your letter dated June 12, 1985, you submitted the proposed Fermi-2 Process Centrol Program;(PCP) for our review since the Fermi-2 Technical Specifications require you to solidify or dewater radioictive wastes in accordance with the process control program (s) which we have '

covers solidification and/or dewatering u, approved. The proposed Fenni-2 PCP sing either the temporary processing and solidification system supplied by NUS or solidification using the permanent asphalt extruder / evaporator. You state in your letter that testing of the perma-nent solidification system will begin soon after initial criticality and that this testing is intended to confirm that the appropriate parameters have been selected for solidification of radwaste.

You also state that the solidification test results will be submitted for our review upon completion.

Based on our review of the proposed Fermi-2 PCP, we find that it generally com-plies with our current criteria and guidelines and is, therefore, acceptable.

We request that you submit the test results within 60 days after completion of the testing of the permanent solid radwaste system.

If you have any questions on this matter, please contact the Fermi-2 Project Manager, M. D. Lynch, at (301)492-7050.
